Our Beliefs

We believe in the Trinity – one God in three persons

God the Father

We believe that God made us and has good plans for us. He longs for us to know Him as a gracious heavenly Father, bringing security, provision, discipline, and purpose into our lives.

God the Son

Jesus Christ is God’s divine eternal Son, perfectly showing us God’s nature and character. Jesus Himself said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). It is only through the Lord Jesus Christ that we can know God personally. “I am the way, the truth, and the Life”, Jesus once said, “no one comes to the Father except by me” (John 14:6). The process of reconciliation with God has been made possible by the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, by providing for the forgiveness of everything we have done wrong and enabling us to become children of God through repentance and faith.

God the Holy Spirit

He is given to us by the Father and the Son to make God’s truth live in our experience. Without the dynamic presence of God’s Spirit, all religious exercises would be dry and empty dogma and ritual. He comes to us today, as He did the early church on the day of Pentecost, to teach, inspire, strengthen, and empower us.

The Church

The true Church is made up of all people throughout the world whose lives have been changed through accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. This church is one local expression of that body. If you would like to know even more about us, or what is involved in being a member of Life, please contact and speak with our Leadership Team

Baptism

Jesus taught that all believers should be baptised. He commanded his disciples to ‘go and make disciples of all nations baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…’ Matt 28:19.
There were no unbaptised believers in the early church. They were baptised as soon as possible after their conversion to Christ in any water that was available and deep enough for them to be fully immersed as an outward sign of what had happened in their hearts.A baptism is a special time of celebration in our church when each new believer is encouraged to share their new found life in Christ with the church and their family and friends.

The Bible

This is God’s inerrant Word to mankind and the key to understanding God’s will for our lives. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105). We place strong emphasis on teaching the practical relevance and application of the Word of God to all aspects of daily living.

Leadership

We believe God appoints the leaders of the church and we look to the Holy Spirit to raise up the right people at the right time. God’s will is sought and nominations are confirmed by election at a church meeting. The Leadership Team comprises of the minister or ministers and others appointed by the church. Life group leaders are appointed by the Leadership Team.

Coordinators have responsibilities for specific areas of church life such as Prayer, Worship, Finance, Children and Youth and are appointed by the Leadership Team.

Money

We believe the Bible teaches that all believers should give generously from the resources God has given to them. We do not look to raise funds from outside the church but expect God will meet the needs of the church by prompting church members to give.

Money regularly given is used to support leaders who work full or part-time for God in the church. It is also used to finance use of buildings and the general ongoing work of the church. We also set aside a specific proportion of our income to support projects and people working overseas for God. In addition to church members giving regularly, there is an offering on Sunday mornings which is added to general funds.

Relationships with other churches

We are a partner church of Horsham Churches Together and a member of the Baptist Union of Great Britain. We also have good connections with other Baptist churches in Sussex and their ministers. We also believe our church is a part of the whole church in Horsham and we have meaningful relationships with other churches in the town. Our leaders meet regularly with other leaders to pray for Horsham and to share news.
