Our work in Kenya revolves around the support and teaching in a rural area in Siaya, situated in Western Kenya. This is comprised of two distinct aspects.
Peace Church has a leadership of six, and meets at the Home of Peace Orphanage. The church draws in people from the surrounding area and beyond.
Julie and Ray take it in turns to teach via an international phone line at the Peace Church service one Sunday a month.
Peace Church has also begun a new church plant near the border of Tanzania. Julie has taught at the new congregation on a number of occasions via mobile phone. We regularly hear testimonies come back of both decisions for Christ and of healing.
The second aspect of our work in Kenya involves the teaching of rural pastors. Local leaders come together twice a month on a Saturday morning for the purpose of encouragement and study, with Julie and Ray taking it in turns to teach them once a month, including sending them teaching notes. The importance of sound Bible teaching for these leaders cannot be underestimated. These local leaders have not had the opportunity of formal theological studies, and yet lead sacrificially in their remote settings. The link we give them is a lifeline in training and leadership development.
We have also helped to support two homes for vulnerable children and orphans, which has involved direct mission work with Ministers from Life going out to Kenya. This work led to the setting up of Peace Church, and of the rural pastors training programme.
