Ashburnham 2017

What a wonderful church weekend away at Ashburnham  (19th-21st May 2017) which well and truly fulfilled our Mission Statement of:

  • Encountering God – there was a clear sense of God’s presence

  • Growing in faith – superb teaching, just what we needed.  The theme was based on “Taking Hold of the Baton”.  Our guest speaker on the Saturday was Rev Mike Williams, senior pastor, at Reigate Baptist Church; together with 8 others from the church who came to lead our worship, our children and young people.  What a blessing they all were.  Mike’s main messages were from the story of Joshua. It was so good to be reminded that God is faithful to His promises and the importance of putting our trust in the Lord, trusting in God’s promises and trusting in God’s word     Our journey as a church  is not about where we’re going  but primarily all about who we are going with!  The key verse of the weekend was Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  As God’s people everyone has a part to play in fulfilling God’s purposes and commission of following Jesus and making Him known.   This can only be fulfilled by prayer and fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

You can listen to recordings from the main speakers from the Saturday and Sunday Sessions below.

Throughout the weekend, there was a great sense of ‘family’ and it was wonderful to see people engaging in prayer and worship and connecting with Jesus.

  • Making a difference –    Of course, our weekend was also about community and the facilities – Thanks go to Hilary in arranging a card with encouraging words and a Bible verse together with some thoughtful welcome goodies placed on the pillow of each person’s bed; there was time to walk and reflect on the beautiful and serene surroundings; time to chat together and also for some fun and laughter on the Saturday evening social which included a quiz about cathedrals, a game of “Beetle Drive”, a Martha skit, singing, a flute piece and even ‘astronomy star gazing’ – seeing which ones we could spot in the night sky.

Overall, the weekend was inspiring and left us with a real sense to reach out to others by praying for them, spreading the love and good news of Jesus Christ.

The staff at Ashburnham, many of whom are volunteers, provided great food and service.  From Life, there were a total of 33 adults, 3 youth, 4 children and 2 babies who stayed as residential, then a further 7 who joined us as day visitors on the Saturday and additionally we welcomed 9 from Reigate Baptist Church Rev Mike Williams, Linz Daun (Youth), Jenni Ogwal (Youth), Jen Smart (children), Kayleigh Monshall (children). Worship Team:   Mike Brown, Debz Kefford. Steve Brown and Vicky May

A great time had by all – a number have indicated that they want to it all again next year!
